Expensify Classic offers different plan types depending on whether you’re tracking expenses individually or managing a team. This guide explains Individual workspace plans (Track and Submit) and how they differ from Group workspace plans.

Note: Track and Submit plans are available only in Expensify Classic. New Expensify uses Collect and Control plans for all workspace types.


Expensify Classic Individual Workspace plans

Individual workspaces are designed for personal expense tracking and individual use cases. Expensify Classic offers two Individual workspace plans:

  • Track Plan: For individuals who want to track personal expenses
  • Submit Plan: For individuals who need to submit expenses to an employer or client

The Track Plan is ideal for individuals who want basic expense tracking without submitting to others. This plan is available only in Expensify Classic.

The Submit Plan adds features for individuals who need to submit expenses for approval or reimbursement. This plan is available only in Expensify Classic.

Expensify Classic Group Workspace plans

Group workspaces in Expensify Classic use the Collect and Control plans, which offer team collaboration, advanced approvals, and enterprise integrations.

  1. On web, hover over Settings and click Workspaces.
  2. Select your workspace.
  3. Click Subscription to view your current pricing.

If your pricing doesn’t match the current Collect or Control rates, you’re likely on a legacy plan.

How to change your Expensify Classic plan

You can upgrade or downgrade your workspace plan anytime based on your needs.

To change an Individual workspace plan in Expensify Classic:

  • On web:
    1. Hover over Settings and click Workspaces.
    2. Click Individual, then select your workspace name.
    3. Click Overview and select Switch under your desired plan.
  • On mobile:
    1. Tap the hamburger menu (three lines) in the top-left corner.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap View All under your workspace.
    4. Select your workspace under the Individual tab.
    5. Tap Current Plan.
    6. Tap Switch next to the plan you want.

To change a Group workspace plan in Expensify Classic:

  • On web:
    1. Hover over Settings and click Workspaces.
    2. Click Group, then select your workspace name.
    3. Click Overview and select Switch under your desired plan.

What’s the difference between Individual and Group workspaces in Expensify Classic?

  • Group workspace (Collect or Control): No, all Group workspace members automatically have unlimited SmartScans included in their plan.

Will I be charged for a monthly subscription even if I don’t use SmartScans in Expensify Classic?

Yes, the Submit Plan subscription for Individual workspaces is prepaid and not usage-based. You’ll be charged regardless of activity. If you don’t need SmartScans, consider downgrading to the free Track Plan.

Are Track and Submit plans available in New Expensify?

No, Track and Submit plans are available only in Expensify Classic Individual workspaces. New Expensify uses Collect and Control plans for all workspace types.
